Last day of our failed mold remediation …

… first day of a new home

Excavator tearing down a 1933 farm house due to mold from water damage
May 15, 2024. Mold won this round, but we are determined to recover our health and home!

Our home was our haven for almost 30 years. Unfortunately, our beloved farm house suffered from water damage after snow and freezing rain created ice dams in the roof valleys. Our saga began in 2017, but we didn’t realize we were the leading characters in a mold sickness story until late 2022. What a journey.

We spent all of 2023 trying to discern the best path forward. We invested thousands upon thousands of dollars in everything from our health to mold inspections and an RV to allow us to avoid further mold exposure. We moved 100% of our belongings out of the home and brought only new items into our RV. The house received the remediation recommended by the first round of experts which included all new sub-flooring and a new roof. We fogged the house with EC3 on repeat, we HEPA vacuumed every surface multiple times. Eventually, we bought a new bed and bedding and tested our tolerance of the “remediated” home for a few nights. Sadly, our health suffered almost immediately and we realized there must be hidden mold lurking. After more experts and discover, we decided to stop pouring money down a slippery slope and figure out how to rebuild.

Thus, begins our life after mold! We are building a new home with a goal of restoring our health, enjoying our farm, and recouping our losses.

When I first realized that mold exposure was the potential source of my mysterious illness, I spent days reading the stories of other people who had been impacted by mold, and it helped me immensely. Now that I have regained a measure of health, I want to give back by sharing my story in the hopes that my experience and journey could be an encouragement to someone else.
